Interstate Highways


Providence: Broad St. on-ramp to I-95 SB (next to Crossroads Rhode Island, the former Providence YMCA) has closed permanently. See the RIDOT website for alternate access to I-95 SB.

Providence: New temporary ramp to I-95 SB from Blackstone St. (accessible only from Allens Ave.) is open to traffic.

» Overnight restrictions

Providence: I-95 NB and SB, between Exits 18 (Thurbers Ave.) and 21 (Broadway/Atwells Ave.) Sunday to Thursday nights, one lane closed 8  to 11 pm, multiple lanes closed 11 pm to 5:30 am for girder painting on new overhead ramps.

Providence: I-95 SB, between Exits 18 (Thurbers Ave.) and 17 (Elmwood Ave./US 1), left lane closed for bridge inspection, Tuesday night, 9 pm to 5 am.

Warwick: I-95 SB, between Exits 13 (Airport Connector) and 12 (Rte. 113/East Ave.), lane closed for bridge inspection, Wednesday night, 9 pm to 5 am.

Providence: I-195 WB between Exits 4 (Taunton Ave.) and 2 (So. Main St.), lanes closed Monday, Wednesday and Thursday nights, 8 pm to 5 am.

Warwick/Cranston: I-295 NB and SB between Exits 2 (Rte. 2/Bald Hill Rd.) and 4 (Rte. 14/Plainfield Pike), lanes closed Sunday – Wednesday nights, 9 pm to 5 am, for bridge inspection.

Johnston: I-295 SB at Exit 5 (Scituate Ave., Johnston), lane closed for bridge inspection, Thursday, 9 am to 4 pm.

E. Providence: I-195 Exit 4 (Taunton Ave.) closed to traffic until November 21. Use Exit 7 (Route 114/East Shore Exp.) to Riverside; Exit 8 (U.S. 6/Warren Ave.) to Taunton Ave.

Pawtucket: I-95 between Exits 27 (George St.) and 28 (School St.) posted for use only by vehicles of less than 18 tons. Detours required for heavier vehicles.

» Nearby construction

Massachusetts: I-295 NB and SB between the Rhode Island State Line and I-95 is being resurfaced. Motorists should be prepared for lane closures in this area.

Cranston: Rte. 37 WB, between New London Ave. (Rte. 2) and I-295, lanes closed to repair roadway utility cut, Thursday night, 11 pm to 5 am.

» Weekday restrictions

Coventry: Main St. (Rte. 117), between Sandy Bottom Rd. and Ken Ray Dr., closed to through traffic weekdays 7 am to 4 pm with detour in place.

Coventry: Phillip St., between Read Ave. and Shippee Ave., lanes closed for KCWA sewer construction, possible delays, weekdays, 7 am to 4 pm, through December 30.

E. Greenwich: Rte. 4 SB, between Exits 8 (Division St.) and 6 (Rte. 2), possible lane closure Monday, 9 am to 3 pm.

Warwick: Post Rd. NB (US 1) at Green State Airport, between Coronado Rd. and Haverford Rd., , right lane closed for utility company cold planing and paving, Wednesday, 7 am to 3:30 pm.

Warwick: Airport Rd., EB and WB, between Post Rd. (U.S. 1) and Warwick Ave. (Rte. 117), right lane closed Monday – Friday, 9 am to 3 pm; also Sunday – Thursday nights, 7 pm to 6 am for construction work.

West Warwick : Fairview Ave. between Main St. and Hillside Ave., lanes closed for KCWA sewer construction and Coventry sewer construction paving. Possible delays weekdays, 7 am to 4 pm, through December 30.

Cranston: Pippin Orchard Rd., between Hope Rd. and Scituate Avenue, is now open to through traffic.

E. Greenwich/No. Kingstown: Route 4 SB traffic to Frenchtown Rd. use Exit 6 (Rte. 2/So. County Trail) through early December. Exit 7B closed for construction.

No. Smithfield: Rte. 146 NB at the Great Rd. (Rte. 146A) overpass, right lane closed Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, 7 am to 3 pm, for construction.

Scituate: Scituate Ave. (Rte. 12), at the Gainer Dam, between North Rd. (Rte. 116) and Howard Ave., one lane closed weekdays 7 am to 3:30 pm for Providence Water Supply Board masonry work underway at the Gainer Dam.

Lincoln: Wilbur Ave., one lane of alternating traffic on the bridge over Rte. 146 due to damaged bridge beams.

No. Smithfield: School St. bridge over Rte. 146 closed to traffic, with a detour in place.

No. Smithfield: Rte. 146 SB under Great Rd., one lane closed for bridge rehabilitation.

City of Providence street closures

» Weekday restrictions

E. Providence: Valley St., between Warren Ave. and No. Brow St., closed to through traffic Monday, Wednesday -  Friday, 7 am to 3:30 pm, for construction.

Providence: Broadway, between Service Rd. and Dean St., lanes restricted Monday, 5 am to 5 pm for utility construction.

Providence: Dyer St. and So. Water St. at I-195 bridge as well as I-195 ramps, lane closed in a moving operation Monday – Friday 9 am to 3 pm for bridge inspection.

Providence: Mt. Pleasant Ave., between Atwells Ave. and Chalkstone Ave., and Public St. between Eddy St. and Elmmwood Ave., lanes closed tot raffic weekdays 7 am to 7 pm for City paving program, through November 30.

Providence/E. Providence: Henderson Bridge (Red Bridge) EB, exit closed to Massasoit Ave. SB. Detour using exit for Massasoit Ave. NB.

No. Kingstown – Jamestown: Rte. 138 EB and WB on the Jamestown-Verrazzano Bridge, lane closure Wednesday – Friday, 9 am to 3 pm only.

» Weekday restrictions

Bristol: Bristol Public Works paving, lanes closed weekdays on DeWolf Ave., Fales Rd., Jessica Dr., Sowams Dr, and a number of other local roads through November.

Bristol-Portsmouth: Rte. 114 on the Mount Hope Bridge, one lane of alternating traffic weekdays 9 am to 3 pm, for RITBA improvements. Expect delays in this area.

Middletown: Rte. 114 (W. Main Rd.) NB and SB between Rte. 138 (E. Main Rd.) and Valley Rd., lanes closed for Town sewer system upgrades weekdays through mid-November. Expect congestion and delays in this area.

Newport/Jamestown: Pell Newport Bridge (Rte.138) EB and WB between Newport and Jamestown, lane closed weekdays 9 am to 3 pm for RITBA bridge inspection.

» Continuing restriction

Bristol: Rte. 114 (Hope St.) at Washington St., lane shift in place through the winter for drainage and utility work.

Portsmouth/Tiverton: Sakonnet Bridge (Rte. 24) posted for use by vehicles under 18 tons. Heavier vehicles must use alternate routes. The bridge is safe for passenger vehicles.
