Ozone Alert Days

During the summer heat, humidity and ground level air pollution can combine to create unhealthy air conditions. When this happens, the R.I. Department of Environmental Management issues an Ozone Alert. Limit travel and use of small engines on this day, and take public transportation which is free on Ozone Alert Days.

Hopkinton: I-95 NB at Exit 1 (Rte. 3), right lane and shoulder closed for bridge inspection, Thursday, May 24 from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.

Pawtucket: I-95 NB & SB, from Exit 27 (Downtown) to Exit 28 (School St.), alternating lane closures for bridge construction, Tuesday through Thursday from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. The left or right lane will be closed at 9 p.m. and the middle lane will be closed at 11 p.m. All lanes will reopen by 5 a.m.

Pawtucket: I-95 NB & SB, from Main St. to Pleasant St. at the Garden St. Bridge, alternating lane closures for bridge inspection, Wednesday and Thursday from 9 p.m. to 3 a.m.

Providence: I-95 NB & SB, from Branch Ave. to Smith St., alternating lane and shoulder closures for survey work, Tuesday and Wednesday from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m.

Warwick to Pawtucket: I-95 NB, from Exit 12 (Rte. 113) in Warwick to the Mass. line in Pawtucket, left lane closed in moving operation for road sweeping, Tuesday from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.

West Warwick to West Greenwich: I-95 SB, from just south of Exit 6 (Rte. 3) to Exit 8A (Rte. 2), various ramp, lane and shoulder closures, Tuesday-Thursday from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. Click here for detour information.

I-195 shield Cranston: I-295 NB & SB, at the Rte. 37 Overpass (Exit 3), one lane of alternating traffic for bridge inspection, Thursday from 9 a.m. to noon.

Providence: I-95 SB, between Exit 17 (Elmwood Ave.) and Exit 18 (Allens Ave./Thurbers Ave.), left lane closed for bridge inspection, Wednesday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

I-195 shield Cumberland/Lincoln: I-295 NB & SB, from Exit 9 (Rte. 146) to Exit 10 (Rte. 122), one lane of travel is closed for construction through Fall 2012. On I-295 NB, all trucks must use the left lane.

I-95 shield East Providence : The East Shore Expressway Bridge over Warren Avenue (Exit 7 off of I-195 EB) is posted for use by vehicles under 17 tons. Detours required for heavier vehicles.

Pawtucket: I-95 SB at the Pawtucket River Bridge posted for use by vehicles of less than 18 tons. Detours required for heavier vehicles.

Warwick/West Warwick: I-95 NB & SB at Exit 8 (Rte. 2), lanes shifted to the left. Use caution entering and exiting.

Portsmouth/Tiverton: Sakonnet Bridge (Rte. 24) posted for use by vehicles under 18 tons. Heavier vehicles must use alternate routes. The bridge is safe for passenger vehicles.

 Portsmouth: Hummocks Ave. NB, at the on-ramp to Rte. 24 NB, traffic must come to a complete stop before merging with traffic.

 Portsmouth: The speed limit on Rte. 24 NB, from Exit 2 (Boyds Lane) to the Sakonnet River Bridge, has been reduced to 40 mph. Restriction in place through mid-2013.

 Tiverton: Ramp at Exit 5 from Rte. 24 NB has been narrowed for work on the new Sakonnet River Bridge. Use caution, as construction vehicles are crossing Monday-Saturday from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Providence: Park St. NB, from Smith St. to Orms St., is closed to through traffic until 2013. Follow signed detour.

Providence: A portion of Frost St., from Cemetery Rd. to Concord St., is closed for sewer work through mid-Spring 2012. Follow signed detour.

Providence: Rte. 7 (Orms St.) EB & WB, from Park St. to Douglas Ave., two lanes closed for construction through Spring 2013. At least one lane will remain open in each direction during the day. An alternating one-way traffic pattern is possible during overnight hours.
