Interstate Highway Restrictions

» Overnight

Pawtucket: I-95, from Exit 29 (Broadway) to Exit 30 (East St./Central Falls), various lane closures for bridge inspection, Monday & Tuesday from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. on the following nights:

  • Monday: NB only
  • Tuesday: SB only; Exit 29 may be briefly closed

Pawtucket: I-95 NB & SB, from Exit 27 (Downtown) to Exit 28 (School St.), right lane closed for bridge work, Sunday-Thursday nights from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.

Providence: I-95 NB, from Exit 19 (I-195) to Exit 21 (Broadway), left lane closed for bridge inspection, Sunday night from 9p.m. to 5 a.m.

Providence: I-195 WB, from Exit 2 (South Main St.) to I-95, various lane closures for construction, 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.

Pawtucket: I-95 between Exits 27 (George St.) and 28 (School St.) posted for use only by vehicles of less than 18 tons. Heavier vehicles should use I-295, Rte. 146 or city detours.

West Greenwich: I-95 NB & SB between Exit 5 (Rte. 102) and Exit 6 (Rte. 3), motorists will find travel lanes shifted to the left for bridge construction.

North Smithfield: Rte. 146 NB & SB, at the Forestdale exit, alternating lane closures for bridge work, Monday-Friday from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Providence: Rte. 6 EB & WB, from the Dean St. on-ramp to Hartford Ave. exit, various lanes closed for survey work on the following days from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. (EB closures do not begin until 9 a.m.):

  • Monday: WB, right lane closed. Also, left lane on the Plainfield Street off-ramp closed.
  • Tuesday: WB, left lane closed.
  • Wednesday: EB, right lane closed
  • Thursday: EB, right lane closed. Also, left lane on the Plainfield Street on-ramp closed.

Narragansett/South Kingstown: Rte. 1, from Wakefield exit to Salt Pond Rd. exit, new traffic pattern in place due to bridge reconstruction. All lanes shift; two-way traffic on SB bridge with two lanes SB and one lane NB.

Portsmouth/Tiverton: Sakonnet River Bridge (Rte. 24) posted for use by vehicles under 18 tons. Heavier vehicles must use alternate routes. The bridge is safe for passenger vehicles.

City of Providence street closures

Providence: Wickenden St., from Benefit St. to South Water St., lane closures for bridge demolition, Sunday-Thursday nights from 6:30 p.m. to 5 a.m.

Pawtucket: Taft St. and Pleasant St., from Division St. to East Ave., possible lane and shoulder closures for bridge work, Monday-Friday from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Providence: Dean St., from West Exchange St. to Atwells Ave., alternating lane closures for construction, Monday-Friday from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Providence: Rte. 6 EB & WB, from the Dean St. on-ramp to Hartford Ave. exit, various lanes closed for survey work on the following days from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. (EB closures do not begin until 9 a.m.):

 Barrington: Access to Mathewson Road from Rte. 114 (County Road) at the Barrington Bridge will be closed until Spring 2010 for construction of a retaining wall. Motorists should follow detour using Rumstick Road and Jennys Lane.

Newport County

» Sakonnet river bridge project

Tiverton: Weekly updates of construction activities impacting local streets will be posted on the RIDOT website at www.dot.ri.gov. Local access to homes will be maintained at all times. The following restrictions are scheduled:

  • Riverside Dr. closed to through traffic, Monday-Saturday from 6:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.
  • On-ramp from Hummocks Ave. to Rte. 24 NB closed until mid 2010. Use Anthony Rd. to Boyd’s Lane to detour.
  • Hummocks Ave., under Rte. 24 overpass, lane closed with alternating traffic pattern for construction, Monday-Friday from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m.
  • Off-ramp at Exit 5 (Rte. 138/Main Rd.) from Rte. 24 NB, lane narrowed for construction.
  • Pile driving ongoing Monday-Saturday from 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Middletown: West Main Rd. (Rte. 114) from Coddington Highway to John Kesson Lane, possible lane closures for electrical work, Monday-Friday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
