Ozone Alert Days

During the summer heat, humidity and ground level air pollution can combine to create unhealthy air conditions. When this happens, the R.I. Department of Environmental Management issues an Ozone Alert. Limit travel and use of small engines on this day, and take public transportation which is free on Ozone Alert Days.

I-195 shield East Providence: I-195 EB, from the Washington Bridge to the Massachusetts state line, alternating lane closures in a moving operation for crack sealing, Sunday-Wednesday nights from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. the following day.

I-95 shield Pawtucket: I-95 NB or I-95 SB, from Exit 27 (Downtown) to Exit 29 (Broadway), various lane closures for construction, Friday night from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. the following day. Right lane closure starts at 9 p.m., middle lane at 11 p.m. All lanes scheduled to reopen by 5 a.m. the following day.

I-295 shield Cranston/Johnston: Due to a crash on Rte. 14 (Plainfield Pike), commercial vehicles on I-295 SB at Exit 4 (Rte. 14) are temporarily restricted to right-lane travel only while bridge repairs are completed.

I-95 shield Cumberland/Lincoln: Motorists traveling I-295 NB, from Exit 9 (Rte. 146) to Exit 10 (Rte. 122/Mendon Rd.), are now using the right lanes. The left lane crossover is closed. Truck traffic is no longer restricted, and Exit 10 is open to all traffic.

I-95 shield Cumberland/Lincoln: Motorists traveling I-295 SB, from Exit 11 (Rte. 114/Diamond Hill Rd.) to Exit 9 (Rte. 146), are now using the left lanes.

I-95 shield East Providence: On I-195 EB, the right lane of Exit 4 (Taunton Ave./Veterans Memorial Parkway) to Veterans Memorial Parkway, is closed through Summer 2013. Follow detour using Exit 8 (Rte. 1A/Rte. 114).

I-95 shield East Providence: The East Shore Expressway Bridge over Warren Avenue (Exit 7 off of I-195 EB) is posted for use by vehicles under 17 tons. Detours required for heavier vehicles.

I-95 shield Exeter: I-95 SB, at the Ten Rod Road Bridge, right shoulder closed through Spring 2013. Lanes shift to left.

Pawtucket: The on-ramp from Main St. to I-95 SB is closed. Follow detour using Walcott St., Underwood St. and Exchange St. to reach an on-ramp for I-95 SB.

Warwick/West Warwick: I-95 NB & SB at Exit 8 (Rte. 2), lanes shifted to the left. Use caution entering and exiting the highway.

 Portsmouth: The speed limit on Rte. 24 NB, from Exit 2 (Boyds Lane) to the Sakonnet River Bridge, has been reduced to 40 mph. Restriction in place through mid-2013.

Rte 6 Rte 10 Providence: Truck traffic is restricted to the right lane only on the Rte. 6/Rte. 10 Connector Outbound, from the Westminster St. overpass to the Rte. 6/Rte. 10 interchange, and on Rte. 6 EB at the Rte. 6/Rte. 10 interchange.

Metropolitan Providence

Pawtucket: As part of the Pawtucket River Bridge Replacement Project, several city streets will be paved Wednesday and Thursday nights from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. the following day, at the following locations:

  • Roosevelt Ave., from East Ave. to Exchange St.
  • Exchange St., from Roosevelt Ave. to High St.
  • Goff St., from Commerce Ave. to Pine St.
  • Main St., from Pine St. to Garden St.
  • Garden St., from Main St. to Cedar St.
  • Pleasant St. at Division St.

East Providence: Waterfront Drive, under the Henderson (Red) Bridge, alternating right lane closure for a bridge inspection, Thursday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

North Providence: The traffic signal at the intersection of Mineral Spring Ave., Brookside Ave. and South Brookside Ave., is currently inoperable. Stop signs have been posted for traffic turning onto Mineral Spring Ave. from Brookside Ave. and South Brookside Ave. while repairs are being made. Please use caution when traveling through the area.

Pawtucket: Pleasant St. and Taft St., from Division St. to Jenks Way at the I-95 overpass, are closed through Fall 2013 for Pawtucket River Bridge construction. Follow signed detours.

Providence: The Randall Street Bridge, which connects Charles St. and North Main St., is closed for replacement. Restrictions will be in place through the end of 2013. The closure begins approximately 60 feet east of the Moshassuck River to allow access to businesses on Randall St. Follow signed detours.

Rte 6 Rte 10 Providence: Truck traffic is restricted to the right lane only on the Rte. 6/Rte. 10 Connector Outbound, from the Westminster St. overpass to the Rte. 6/Rte. 10 interchange, and on Rte. 6 EB at the Rte. 6/Rte. 10 interchange.

Providence: Park St. NB, from Smith St. to Orms St., is closed to through traffic until 2013. Follow signed detour.

Providence: Rte. 7 (Orms St.) EB & WB, from Park St. to Douglas Ave., two lanes closed for construction through Spring 2013. At least one lane will remain open in each direction during the day. An alternating one-way traffic pattern is possible during overnight hours.

Providence: Troy St. SB, from Magnolia St. to Pilsudski St., is closed for construction through the end of July. Follow signed detour.

Providence: Dyer St., from Peck St. to Ship St., two-way traffic pattern in place for construction associated with the Iway (I-195 Relocation Project).
