Interstate Highway Restrictions

»Full highway closures

Providence: I-95 NB & SB, from Exit 19 (NB: I-195; SB: Eddy St.) to Exit 21 (NB: Broadway; SB: Atwells Ave.), the highway will be closed for bridge construction Sunday-Tuesday nights from 11 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. Lane closures will begin at 8 p.m. each night. Use Rte. 10 to bypass the construction area or follow signed city detours. I-95 SB hospital traffic use Exit 21.

Providence: I-195 WB after Exit 2 (South Main St.), access to I-95 SB only due to bridge construction, Sunday-Tuesday nights from 11 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. Motorists wishing to access I-95 NB must use Exit 2 and follow city detour using South Main St., Steeple St. and Memorial Blvd. to on-ramp near Providence Place Mall.

»traffic pattern changes

West Greenwich: I-95 SB, between Exit 6 (Rte. 3) and Exit 5 (Rte. 102), the split-lane traffic pattern on I-95 SB will be removed on Saturday, but all lanes will be shifted to the left. This will eliminate the oversized truck detour route.

Hopkinton/Richmond: I-95 NB and SB from Connecticut state line to Exit 3 (Rte. 138), various left lane closures and possible ramp closures for construction, Sunday-Tuesday nights from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m.

Pawtucket: I-95 NB, from Exit 27 (Downtown) and Exit 28 (School St.), possible shoulder closures for bridge repair, Sunday-Tuesday nights from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. Possible partial lane closures on nearby city streets as well.

Pawtucket: I-95, from Exit 26 (Lonsdale Ave.) and Exit 29 (Broadway), expect alternating lane closures for bridge inspections from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. on the following nights:

  • Sunday: I-95 SB only
  • Monday: I-95 NB only  

Providence: I-95 NB & SB, from Exit 20 (NB: Point St.; SB: I-195) to Exit 22 (Downtown), alternating lane closures for bridge inspection, Sunday-Tuesday nights from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.

West Greenwich: I-95 SB, between Exit 6 (Rte. 3) and Exit 5 (Rte. 102), right lane closed for bridge work, Friday (November 20) & Sunday nights from 9 p.m. to 5:30 a.m.

» Weekday

Hopkinton/Richmond: I-95 NB and SB from Connecticut state line to Exit 3 (Rte. 138), expect shoulder closures due to guardrail work, Monday-Tuesday from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and Wednesday from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Warwick: I-95 NB, from Exit 10 (Rte. 117) to Exit 12 (Rte. 113), expect construction on the right shoulder, and on I-295 from I-95 to Exit 1 (Rte. 113), expect construction on the left shoulder for electrical work, Monday-Wednesday from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Pawtucket: I-95 between Exits 27 (George St.) and 28 (School St.) posted for use only by vehicles of less than 18 tons. Detours required for heavier vehicles.

West Greenwich: I-95 NB & SB between Exit 5 (Rte. 102) and Exit 6 (Rte. 3), motorists will find travel lanes shifted to the left for bridge construction.

 Newport/Jamestown: Rte. 138 EB and WB on the Pell (Newport) Bridge, various single-lane closures for bridge inspection by the R.I. Turnpike & Bridge Authority, weekdays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

 Warwick: Rte. 37 EB at Exit 2 (Rte. 2), left lane closed for construction, Monday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

 Bristol/Portsmouth: Rte. 114 on the Mt. Hope Bridge, one lane of alternating traffic for bridge work by the R.I. Turnpike & Bridge Authority, weekdays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

 Barrington: Access to Mathewson Road from Rte. 114 (County Road) at the Barrington Bridge will be closed until late 2009 for construction of a retaining wall for the new bridge. Motorists should follow detour using Rumstick Road and Jennys Lane.

» Sakonnet river bridge project

Tiverton: Weekly updates of construction activities impacting local streets will be posted on the RIDOT website at www.dot.ri.gov. The following restrictions are scheduled:

  • Evans Ave., from Main Rd. to Riverside Dr., a one-way alternating traffic pattern will be in effect for road work, Saturday from 7 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. Expect rough road conditions with gravel surface.
  • Riverside Dr. closed to through traffic for construction, Monday-Friday from 6:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Local access to homes will be maintained at all times.
  • Main Rd., in the area of Central Ave., periodic one-way alternating traffic pattern needed for construction, Monday-Friday from 6:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

» OVERNIGHT & DAYTIME

Middletown: West Main Rd. (Rte. 114) from Coddington Highway to John Kesson Lane, possible lane closures due to sidewalk and curbing reconstruction, Sunday nights, 10 p.m. to 6 a.m.; Monday-Tuesday nights from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. and Monday-Wednesday daytime work from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
