Interstate Highways

» Overnight restriction

Providence: I-95 (NB and SB) between Exits 17 (Elmwood Ave.) and 22 (Rtes. 6 and 10), lanes closed Sunday – Thursday nights, 8 pm to 5 am, for construction. (Note: After Sunday Monday night's work, the I-95 NB Exit 20 ramp will be permanently reduced to one lane).

Providence/E. Providence: I-195 (EB and WB) between Exits 1 (Downtown Providence) and 5 (Warren Ave.), lanes closed Sunday – Thursday nights, 8 pm to 5 am, for construction.

» Weekday restriction

Providence/E. Providence: I-195 EB, exit 4 (Taunton Ave.) closed to traffic Tuesday, Wednesday (rain date) , 9 am to 3 pm, with a detour in place to Exit 5 (Warren Ave.).

» Continuing restriction


Pawtucket: I-95 between Exits 27 (George St.) and 28 (School St.) posted for use only by vehicles weighing less than 18 tons. Heavier trucks with destinations in:

  • Destinations north of Pawtucket or south of Warwick RI, use I-295.
  • Destinations in the Providence metropolitan area or the East Bay, use I-295 and Route 146 to avoid the posted bridge (Detour is 2-minutes longer than I-95, less congested.)
  • Destinations in Pawtucket, use the signed local detours. Click here for detour descriptions and printable maps.

» Nearby construction

Massachusetts: I-295 NB and SB between the Rhode Island State Line and I-95 is being resurfaced. Motorists should be prepared for lane closures in this area.

West Bay

» Continuing restrictions

Coventry: Motorists should expect continuing lane closures and rough road conditions on Rte. 3, Rte. 117, and Sandy Bottom Rd. for Town sewer improvements.

E. Greenwich-No. Kingstown: Frenchtown Rd. (Rte. 402) over Rte. 4, bridge closed for repairs, detour in place.

W. Warwick: Main St., between Providence St. and Roberts St., remains one-way SB day and night for the installation of decorative crosswalks until mid-May.

» Overnight restriction

No. Smithfield: Rte. 146 NB or SB, at various bridge locations between Rte. 146A (Great Rd.) and the Massachusetts State Line, left lane closed for guardrail installation, Sunday – Thursday nights, 9 pm to 6 am.

» Weekday restriction

No. Smithfield: Rte. 146 NB, at the Rte. 146A (Great Rd.) overpass, right lane closed Monday -  Friday, 7 am to 3 pm, for bridge demolition.

 

» Continuing restrictions

No. Smithfield: School St. bridge over Rte. 146 is closed to traffic, with a detour in place.

No. Smithfield: Rte. 146 SB under Great Rd., one lane closed for bridge rehabilitation.

Metropolitan Providence

City of Providence street closures

» Weekend restrictions

Providence: Benefit St., between Waterman St. and College St., closed to traffic Sunday from 12 am to 8 pm for the RISD ‘Spring Thing.’

Providence: River Rd., between Angell St. and Irving St., closed to traffic Saturday, 6 am to 4 pm, for the Narragansett Boat Club.

» Weekday restriction

E. Providence: Valley St., between Warren Ave. and No. Brow St., closed to through traffic with detour, Monday through Friday, 7 am to 3 pm.

Providence: Charlesfield St., between Hope St. and Brook St., closed to traffic Thursday between 6 am and 12 pm, for Brown University.

» continuing restriction

E. Providence: No. Broadway bridges at Roger Williams Ave. (over Ten Mile River), bridges posted at 7 tons. Heavier vehicles required to use detour.

Providence: O’Connell St., between Allens Ave. and Eddy St., closed to through traffic beginning Monday morning.

Providence: Weybosset St., between Peck St. and Delta St., closed to traffic weekdays between 5 am and 5 pm for building construction, beginning Monday, ending June 1.

» weekend restriction

No. Kingstown: Rte. 403 EB, between West Davisville Rd. and Post Rd., right lane closed Sunday night between 7 pm and 1 midnight; road section closed with detour in place for about 30 minutes between 12 and 1 am.

No. Kingstown: US 1 (Tower Hill Rd.), NB only, between Gilbert Stuart Rd. and Rte. 4,  lane closed Saturday, 6 am to 4 pm.

» Weekday restriction

No. Kingstown: Lane closed for bridge inspection, 8:30 am to 4:30 pm.

  • Monday, Tuesday – Rte. 1A over Rte. 138
  • Wednesday – Rte. 4 over Stoney Lane

No. Kingstown/Jamestown: Rte. 138 EB and WB on the Jamestown-Verrazzano Bridge, lane closed Wednesday 9 am to 3 pm for expansion joint repair.

Hopkinton/Westerly: Lane closed for bridge inspection, 8:30 am to 4:30 pm.

  • Friday - Rte. 3 NB and SB, Forrestal Dr. to River Rd.
  • Friday – Rte. 3 over the Pawcatuck River

Exeter: Austin Farm Rd. over I-95, one lane of alternating traffic for rural bridge repair.

» overnight restriction

Newport: America's Cup Ave., near Bowen's Wharf, SB lane closed with detour in place, Sunday through Thursday nights, 9 pm to 5 am, for National Grid utility improvements.

Tiverton: Main Rd. (Rte. 138) near the on-ramp to Rte. 24 NB, road construction underway, lane shifts in place, possible delays, Monday - Wednesday, 6 am to 4 pm.

Portsmouth/Tiverton: Rte. 24 NB and SB on the Sakonnet River Bridge, lane closed for bridge inspection, ramps to and from Central Ave., Tiverton also closed, with detour, Monday and Tuesday, 9 am to 3 pm.

» Continuing restriction

Portsmouth/Tiverton: Sakonnet Bridge (Rte. 24) posted for use by vehicles under 22 tons. Heavier vehicles must use alternate routes. The bridge is safe for passenger vehicles.
