WHAT IS THE PURPOSE OF THIS NEW SERVICE? To help motorists access information regarding road conditions,
incidents, and construction via the web. WHERE DOES THE INFORMATION COME FROM? The Condition Acquisition and Reporting
System (CARS) will be the primary source of data for these services.
RIDOT will use this system to maintain real-time
information about travel conditions throughout the State. The
system continues to evolve as one comprehensive and timely source
of data that ultimately improves the information available through
services like Web sites. WHICH ROADS WILL BE REPORTED ON FOR THIS PILOT PROJECT? The roads shall include Interstates shown in blue, US highways shown in pink
and, State Routes and local roads shown in grey. WHAT TYPE OF INFORMATION IS AVAILABLE? The Rhode Island Department of Transportation will report events such as
roadwork, major delays, collisions, traffic hazards, travel restrictions, road closures,
lane closures and major events that will affect travel on major highways. HOW DO I NAVIGATE THROUGH THE SITE? The primary navigation tool for the website is
a tabbed interface along the top. The left hand menu contains
links to information about the RhodeWAYS website. The blue tabs are key to accessing actual travel information
and are organized in 7 categories. HOW DO I FIND WHAT I AM LOOKING FOR? Using the blue tabs along the top, you can access information grouped into the following categories: HOW DO I FIND WEATHER INFORMATION? Weather conditions can play a large role in decisions to travel, especially during the winter.
The National Weather Service provides weather forecasts and warnings on their own website.
To access current weather reports simply click on the WEATHER FORECASTS tab. HOW DO I FIND INFORMATION FOR THE HIGHWAY/ROAD I'M INTERESTED IN? The drop-down menu located above the map will allow you to change your viewing area. The use
of the map boundary bar will allow you to move between available maps. I AM PLANNING A TRIP THIS SUMMER. HOW DO I FIND OUT WHERE WILL THERE BE CONSTRUCTION? First click on the ROADWORK tab along the top. Then choose the area you are going to
travel in using the pulldown menu. Finally, choose the month of your travel. The map and text will display
currently planned or scheduled construction entered in the system. Please check back before your trip to
ensure no new projects have been scheduled. I HAVE A SLOW INTERNET CONNECTION. HOW CAN I BROWSE THE SITE FASTER? The Show Map option is the default
setting for the Web site. To view situations without the map and other graphics,
simply click on the Text Only link located above the map on the right. If you wish to view the
map once again, click on the Show Map link located in the same location. WHAT DOES THE DIFFERENT COLOR CODING ON THE ADVISORIES MEAN? The website color coding for Advisories on the website is designed to make it easier for visitors to identify different types of events on the roadway. The color coding used is as follows:
